I met Ambassador Christopher Hill yesterday July 31, 2006 in La Salle Taft. I asked him a fair question on the Amerasian Act that does not give The At least 50 thousand Fil Amerasians the same rights as the Laotian and Vietnamese Amerasians. I had written Pres. Bill Clinton on the possible amendments and received no response.
Ambassador Hill admitted he had no answer or inkling on it but promised to get back to me on this issue. I am waiting, and when will thay give justice to Amerasians here in the Philippines who are not recognized by their fathers and therefire have no access to US
support nor benefits. I may be wrong because of the recent story of several Amerasians processed to go to the US to lobby for the rights of their colleagues.
Several Amerasians are living on the edge, ask the Pearl S. Buck foundation who has monitored a few hundred brave fathers to claim and acknowledged their Filipino heirs.
Remember the story of then Congresswoman Kate Gordon who met her father, with her kids and now Senator Dick in tow. They were able to trace Kates father after much search thanks to the aid of several whose names I do not have.
The American Congress must immediately amend this law to give benefits to these children and now mostly adults with some capital for livelihood, education etc.
We should follow the Japanese law and their lead of giving the appropriate visas to anyone who can prove even 5 percent Japanese blood to be give a welcome mat.
It is ironic that America gets immigrants from all over and not making it easy for those with American blood to enter the land of the super power.
This is one of the social costs of the US bases presence.
This is somethig to work for Ambassador Hill. Thank you for your time. Give justice to all Amerasians especially those who are poor, fatherless, skill less, jobless and homeless.
Several have to prostitute themselves just to live.
