DATUK SERI ANWAR IBRAHIM IN UP COLLEGE OF LAW in Quezon City last January 29, 2010

February 1, 2010

The former Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim spoke on the fourth wave of democratic transformation before

the audience at the University of the Philippines College of Law. He exposed his difficulties in obtaining the police report and documents of charges against him as he goes to trial on Febraury 02, 2010 on sexual immoral charges. He mentioned the presEntation of a mattress that he supposedly used with seminal stains supposedly belonging to him. He asked his wife Aziza, how is that the stains are there was there no use of bed cover? Anwar complains of the lack of oppurtunity for his side to see print in Malaysian media, so he asks Filipino media to help him. He has the support of at least ninety (90) members of parliament and he is the leading opposition leader. He is confident to weather this new case otherwise if he is jailed once again, which he calls “rest’ time, he is to be silenced. At least no disappearances in Malaysia, unlike here, we worry of freedom after speech.

THE FORUM ORGANIZERS MUST INVITE KAPATIRAN TOO MR RAMOS. AIM DID NOT INVITE KAPATIRAN

January 15, 2010

For the record, Ang Kapatiran Party, has not, to date, rejected any invitation for any forum. As much as possible, we stretch ourselves to accommodate every invite be it for presidential, vice presidential, or senatorial.

taken from: http://www.xavyniceday.com/

Are there only 4 presidential candidates?

The news and the debates seem to have cut the number of Presidentiables. You barely see all 8 (now 9) of them. They focus on only Noynoy Aquino, Manny Villar, Gibo Teodoro and Dick Gordon.

Are there only 4 of them now? It is funny how media continuously harps on freedom of information. How everyone has a right to know. How we need to get all the information to be able to make sound choices. But really, it is only when it suits them.

The fact that they only focus on 4 of the 9 shows that they are infringing on our own right to know. They are stopping us from getting all the information we need to make sound choices. It doesn’t suit them to have 9 people debating, because it will take up a lot of time, so they are deciding for us. They are going against everything they fight for themselves.

The truth is, there are 9 candidates:

 (Jamby not pictured)

Aside from the top 4, there are Erap Estrada, JC de los Reyes, Jamby Madrigal, Eddie Villanueva and Nicanor Perlas. Sure, they may have low ratings. And yes, we all have our own opinions on them and how they should or should not be running. But that’s the point. We have our opinions. And we have a right to say them. And people have a right to know. And it is medias JOB and MANDATE to let us have all the access to these candidates and information about them. And not just the ones they like to feature.

So let all 9 of them debate. It may take more hours. And more press time. And more sound bytes. But let them debate. Let us see them. And let us make the decisions for ourselves.

Believing that the post they are seeking is not just a “spare tire,” vice presidential aspirants on Thursday revealed what they would do once elected.

During the press conference for GMA’s Isang Tanong: The Vice Presidential Forum, Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay of the United Opposition and actor Edu Manzano of Lakas-Kampi-CMD said they would like to utilize their `expertise’ on local governance and law enforcement by heading the Department of Interior and Local Government.

Dominador Chipeco of Ang Kapatiran would like to be the Labor secretary, Perfecto Yasay Jr of Bangon Pilipinas wants to be in charge of trade and investment, and former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chairman Bayani Fernando would like to supervise all the infrastructure agencies.

Senator Loren Legarda would like to lead the government program against hunger while Senator Manuel Roxas II and broadcaster Jay Sonza said they would give the president a free hand on decided what other government function should be given to them.

Binay added that his president would be able to sleep well “dahil ni isang segundo ay hindi ko iisipin na agawin ang kanyang pagkapangulo (I would not dream, even for a second, of taking the presidency from him).”

He, however, said he is qualified to the country’s top post being a local government official since 1986.

For his part, Manzano believed that aside from his experience in local governance when he was vice mayor of Makati in 1998 and in law enforcement being head of the Optical Media Board, he can also contribute in education.

“I would like to make a contribution when it comes to education. I attended several conventions recently and I saw that the only way we can truly achieve economic prosperity is for us to become globally competitive. I believe that the most effective route to economic development is for us to improve our human capital and we can do it via education,” he said.

Chipeco said he wants to help workers and overseas Filipino workers. “I want to be placed in a position where I can have an immediate impact on the most vulnerable sector of our society today and those are the workers,” he said.

Chipeco, running mate of JC delos Reyes, was a human resources director of a multinational company.

Yasay, a former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, believed that he would be able to serve well in the area of trade and investment. “I can play a very important role (in that area) and push hard not only for the democratization of the ownership the resources of our country but more importantly to democratize the wealth creation for our people,” he said.

Fernando said his expertise on technical things, being an engineer by profession, could help him rid the government of corruption in the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC).

“Ang nais ko ay payagan niya ako na subaybayan ko ang iba’t ibang mga departamento lalo na yung may kinalamang technical gaya ng DPWH at DOTC, mga infrastructure agencies kung saan ginugugol natin ang pinakamalaking bahagi ng pera ng gobyerno, 60 porsyento ang ginugugol natin at dyan din ang pinakamaraming korupsyon kaya gagamitin ko ang aking karanasan bilang isang inhenyero,” he said.

(We are spending 60 percent of our national budget in infrastructure projects so it is where corruption happens. I will use my knowledge and experience as an engineer to curb that.)

Legarda said she has no preferred department to lead but she will be a 24/7 vice president who would prioritize addressing food problems and hunger.

“Hindi ako hihingi ng anumang posisyon sa aking pangulo, pero ang kauna-unahan kong gustong bigyan ng pansin ay ang laban sa gutom (I will not ask for a certain position. I will leave that to the president. But once elected, I will focus on the problem on hunger),” she said. - KBK, GMANews.TV

JC DE LOS REYES- STATEMENT ON MAGUINDANAO MASSACRE- NOV 23, 2009

November 26, 2009

ANG KAPATIRAN PARTY STATEMENT ON THE MAGUINDANAO MASSACRE

The carnage in Maguindanao has challenged this scandal-scarred Arroyo administration to prove its resolve, sincerity and determination by acting quickly and decisively to satisfy the demands of justice, and peace and order.

The warlords clans must be contained, isolated, and held at bay.  “Rido” is a barbaric practice that has no place in a civilized society. Arms must be confiscated with no exception, except for those in the AFP and PNP.  Every culprit with probable cause must be apprehended and charged, and a no-nonsense warning given to those with designs to take revenge by taking the law into their hands.

The total gun ban must now be in full force and effect until, and after, the elections.  No candidate must be given special treatment. This includes prohibition of armed bodyguards and the practice of security details from the AFP and PNP.

AKP standard-bearer JC de los Reyes said, “Putting an end to the culture of violence must start now!  The challenge before the President, Congress and the Philippine National Police is not to ‘get tough on crime’ but to get tough on guns and to get serious about crime prevention. Guns were made for one purpose only: to kill.  A gun is a tragedy waiting to happen. Each violent incident, each senseless killing, each tragic story muffles a moral voice that, in this troubled world, needs to be heard.”

The first and primary duty of government under the Philippine Constitution is to protect the citizen and maintain peace and order. Peace and order is a precondition for sustainable development.  No society can prosper in an atmosphere where public safety is in question. Allowing Filipinos to arm themselves and carry their firearms in public places is an admission of failure of the government to fulfill its first duty – to protect its citizens and to maintain peace and order.

“If maintenance of peace and order were to be the yardstick of a passing mark for an administration, one can be sure that all past administrations up to the present would have gotten a failing mark.  If this were a ground for impeachment, all the past presidents would have been impeached including the present one,” de los Reyes added.

JC de los Reyes offered the following proposals for immediate action and implementation:

GENERAL PRINCIPLES:  You cannot control crime without controlling the criminal, and you cannot control the criminal without controlling the gun.  As a crime prevention and common sense measure, the aim of gun control legislation is to make the harmless act of carrying a gun in public a criminal offense before such act turns into a violent one like murder, homicide, robbery, kidnapping, etc. It seeks to stop gun violence before it begins.  Gun control is aimed at making it easier to identify criminals, especially gun-carrying “plainclothesmen,” so that it will be easier for law enforcers in uniform and on duty to disarm them and for peaceful unarmed citizens to cooperate with the authorities.

POLICIES:  Promote life, peace, active nonviolence and progressive disarmament.  Be hard on guns, get serious about crime prevention, rethink our flawed institutions.  We need both deterrence and crime prevention measures It should be mandatory to report to media whether the gun involved in the crime is licensed or not and in whose name it is registered.  One standard question that should be asked of the suspect: “Where did you get the gun you used?”

FELINO’JUN’ PALAFOX CALLING ROTARY CLUB, MAKATI BUSINESS CLUB, MAP AND OTHERS

November 7, 2009

You must meet and listen to Mr. Jun Palafox, a man of vision, planning, advocating a change in attitude and purpose. He is also a former seminarian, a family man, an employer of over a hundred co-workers. This is how I first met him. He is a benefactor of causes and advocacies, like promoting vocations, environmental  balanced development, even x-seminartians are in his radar. I was surprised he was charged with libel for something he said as part of his profession of preventing the destruction of an urban forest. He continues to study even as he nears  the normal retirement age, as he is like a sponge for ideas.

Do you want to live in a home built on stilts like in Brunei.

We have missed to know the flood lines in our communities, such that people had to die.

He wants a dialogue among and between initially the metro mayors and the urban planners  and NGOs and GOs to learn from the Metro Manila plan, the Burnham plan , Manila Bay Pacific Coast Megalopolis Concept plan of 2020  ETC.  We need to avert flood disasters, what are the lessons learned, what are recommendations put forward, what budgeting  is needed and what political will. Get in touch with me for comments and participating in that dialogue . hilman1108@yahoo.com

ANGER MANAGEMENT

October 25, 2009

Anger management

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jump to: navigation, search

The term Anger management commonly refers to a system of psychological therapeutic techniques and exercises by which someone with excessive or uncontrollable anger can control or reduce the triggers, degrees, and effects of an angered emotional state. In some countries, courses in anger management may be mandated by their legal system.

One technique for controlling anger is finding agreement with another person rather than conflict. The use of deep breathing and meditation can be used as a means of relaxation. Other interventions include learning empathy, stress management skills, forgiveness, changing how you speak about yourself or others and improving optimism. As the issue of anger varies from person to person, the treatments are designed to be personal to the individual.

[edit] Methods of anger management

Psychologists recommend a balanced approach to anger, which both controls the emotion and allows the emotion to express itself in a healthy way. Some descriptions of actions of anger management are:

  • Direct, such as not beating around the bush, making behaviour visible and conspicuous, using body language to indicate feelings clearly and honestly, anger directed at persons concerned.
  • Honorable, such as making it apparent that there is some clear moral basis for the anger, being prepared to argue your case, never using manipulation or emotional blackmail, never abusing another person’s basic human rights, never unfairly hurting the weak or defenseless, taking responsibility for actions.
  • Focused, such as sticking to the issue of concern, not bringing up irrelevant material.
  • Persistent, such as repeating the expression of feeling in the argument over and over again, standing your ground, self defense.
  • Courageous, such as taking calculated risks, enduring short term discomfort for long term gain, risking displeasure of some people some of the time, taking the lead, not showing fear of other’s anger, standing outside the crowd and owning up to differences, using self-protective skills.
  • Passionate, such as using full power of the body to show intensity of feeling, being excited and motivated, acting dynamically and energetically, initiating change, showing fervent caring, being fiercely protective, enthusing others.
  • Creative, such as thinking quickly, using more wit, spontaneously coming up with new ideas and new views on subject
  • Forgive, such as demonstrating a willingness to hear other people’s anger and grievances, showing an ability to wipe the slate clean once anger has been expressed.
  • Listen to what is being said to you. Anger creates a hostility filter, and often all you can hear is negatively toned.

A common skill used in most anger management programs is learning assertive communication techniques. Assertive communication is the appropriate use of expressing feelings and needs without offending or taking away the rights of others. It is typically started with the use of “I” statements followed by a need statement. For example, “I feel upset when you don’t take my feelings into consideration when you talk about your past relationships. I hope you can be more thoughtful and know what you should and should not say the next time.”

With regard to interpersonal anger, Dr. Eva L. Feindler[1] recommends that people try, in the heat of an angry moment, to see if they can understand where the alleged perpetrator is coming from. Empathy is very difficult when one is angry but it can make all the difference in the world. Taking the other person’s point of view can be excruciating when in the throes of anger, but with practice it can become second nature. Of course, once the angry person is in conditions of considering the opposite position, then the anger based on righteous indignation tends to disappear.

The main issue of anger management is that anger is regarded as an incorrect projection of the mind, so that wisdom and insight can ultimately correct the mind and eliminate anger completely.
